Window Security during the Summer

Whilst the summer near approaches and the weather becomes warmer, its natural for most of us to open windows for a cool breeze. For Burglars, this means an opportunity to break into someone's house. 

Burglars often focus on windows because they can be easier to access than doors. Take a moment to look at your home from the outside and identify anything that could help someone reach a window. Remove or reposition items like bins, garden furniture or items that can help assist a burglar to reach a window height. Consider the following precautions: 

Be aware that burglars may use ladders to reach upper-floor windows to avoid triggering alarms on lower levels. These ladders may be taken from your garden or the burglars own. To reduce the risk, ensure garden equipment is locked away safely in a shed or storage container. 

When purchasing new windows, research what you are buying and look for products that meet recognised security standards. Look for options tested to British Standards and approved by insurers, such as those certified PAS 24 2022. 

Before leaving your property, ensure all windows are locked. It is worth turning back to look at your property as you leave, ensuring a window hasn't been forgotten - or for possible equipment left out which can be used to assist a burglar
